The average American produces approximately 2,072 pounds of trash per year! And out of that, only the 34.3% of it gets recycled! And even though, trying to recycle is a good intent, we consume way more than we can recycle. Instead, an alternative is trying to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly life, and for that, we have compiled a small llist of tips and things you can change in your daily life to create a better life for yourself and our planet!
- Ask for no straws when you’re out!
- Use a reusable water bottle.
- Change tissues for handkerchiefs.
- Don’t take free promotional items! They are probably cheap and will break easilly.
- Donate used items.
- Try buying second hand items.
- Or look for sustainable brands.
- Open a window from time to time instead of using the AC.
- Try making and using compost.
- Use or make your own bar soap or bar shampoo instead of liquid soap!
- Plant a small garden
- Make sure that, when you are, run a full dishwasher or load of clothes.
- Use public transportation or walk from time to time. If you can, you can also carpool.
- Try making some of your own products, like deodorant, mouthwash or febreze spray (yeah, you can do that).
- Reduce your meat consumption. If you don’t want to go vegetarian, just try Meatless Monday!
- Beware of green-washing, make sure that the products you are buying are actually sustainable!
- Go paperless for all your bills and receipts!
- If you can, install a bidet attachment to your toilet.
- Pick up litter when you’re out and dispose of it properly.
- Try switching to a french press or pour over with a reusable filter to avoid extra waste.
